The aim of this course is to provide students with the linguistic tools to improve the written and oral communication of their scientific research in English. Emphasis will be on the essential structural patterns for the appropriate writing of scientific related documents such as critiques, abstracts, and cover letters. Also, the course aims at developing some listening skills strategies, which are key to improving the pronunciation of words and expressions that are difficult for Spanish speakers when communicating their research. The course will be based on real samples of articles, abstracts, letters and scientific talks given by invited Professors from the Faculty of Medicine and other institutions, whose native language is English or who publish and speak English at an advanced level.
El objetivo de este curso es proporcionar a los estudiantes las herramientas lingüísticas para mejorar la comunicación oral y escrita de su investigación científica en inglés. Se hará hincapié en los patrones estructurales esenciales para la redacción adecuada de documentos científicos relacionados, como críticas, resúmenes y cartas de presentación. Además, el curso tiene como objetivo desarrollar algunas estrategias de habilidades de escucha, que son clave para mejorar la pronunciación de palabras y expresiones que son difíciles para los hispanohablantes cuando comunican su investigación. El curso se basará en muestras reales de artículos, resúmenes, cartas y charlas científicas impartidas por profesores invitados de la Facultad de Medicina y otras instituciones cuyo idioma nativo es el inglés o que publican y hablan inglés a un nivel avanzado.
